FM Boys Varsity 4+ Claims Silver at NYS Championships, Secures National Berth


The Fayetteville-Manlius Boys Varsity 4+ crew delivered an outstanding performance at the New York State Rowing Championships on Saturday, claiming the silver medal in the scholastic division and punching their ticket to the National Championships in Camden, NJ.

The crew, consisting of Senior coxswain Dan Summers, the Junior Graff twins (Benjamin and Nicholas), Senior Nolan Krukin, and Senior Bennett Terchowitz, continued their impressive season with a strong showing against the state's top competition. This marks the second consecutive year this talented group will represent FM at Nationals, having competed last year in the Junior 4+ category.

Silver Success and National Qualification

In a competitive field that included both scholastic programs and club teams, the FM boys demonstrated their mettle with a time of 5:21.95. They were the second scholastic crew to cross the finish line, behind only Burnt Hills Rowing Association (5:14.85). Their experience at Nationals last year has clearly benefited them, and they've been locked in on getting back to that stage all season long.

Looking Ahead to Nationals

With their silver medal performance securing their berth, the crew now turns its attention to the National Championships at the Cooper River in Camden, NJ. The storied venue has hosted numerous prestigious rowing events and will provide a fitting stage for the FM crew to test themselves against the nation's best.Competing at Nationals is always special and having been there before gives the boys a better idea of what to expect and how to prepare. The crew will now focus on fine-tuning their technique and building speed before they face off against the country's elite scholastic crews. Their success throughout the season suggests they'll be ready for the challenge ahead.

Complete NYS Championship Results

In the overall results that combined both club and scholastic programs, RowAmerica Rye claimed the top spot with a time of 5:10.59, followed closely by Row New York - Manhattan (5:10.96) and Pittsford Crew (5:11.64). Burnt Hills led the scholastic division with their fourth-place overall finish (5:14.85), followed by FM in eighth (5:21.95) and St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute in ninth (5:27.46).
